Nepal is the 150th largest export economy in the world. In 2015, Nepal exported $909M and imported $6.61B, resulting in a negative trade balance of $5.7B. The GDP of Nepal was $21.2B and its GDP per capita was $2.46k. Nepal’s economic growth has rebounded strongly and has reached 7.5 percent in the fiscal year 2017. The economic growth will remain strong with country’s potential, averaging 5 percent over the next two fiscal years.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy, providing a livelihood for almost 70% of the population and accounting for about one-third of GDP. Nepal has a small surplus in food grains. Industrial activity mainly involves the processing of agricultural products, including pulses, jute, sugarcane, tobacco, and grain.

Nepal’s industrial production represents a small but a growing segment of economic activity. Nepal’s  greatest potential for increases also lies in agricultural production. Nepal has potential to end extreme poverty and spur more inclusive and sustained economic growth by major public and private investment.
